Important Health And Safety Tips

June 19th, 2013

We want you to have the time of your life at Electric Daisy Carnival, but we also want you to be safe, responsible, and respectful of yourself and others. Below are some helpful tips and information on how to maximize positive vibes while at EDC.

HOT HOT HEAT!
Las Vegas during the summer is hotter than hot, but in the high desert, dramatic changes in temperature and conditions occur—even in a single day. Please keep up to date on weather reports for Las Vegas/Clark County, and plan your attire and preparations accordingly. Our Twitter and Facebook feed is also a great resource for up-to-date information on festival conditions. One thing is constant—water will be your best friend. Whether you’re under the sweltering sun or the desert moon, drink plenty of H2O and sports drinks with electrolytes. Staying hydrated is crucial to having the best time possible.

HYDRATE—AT OUR FREE WATER REFILL STATIONS

There will be several clearly marked Free Water Refill Stations on-site where you can fill any empty beverage container for free. These stations dispense municipal water that has gone through state-of-the-art filtration systems, including ultraviolet sterilization. Specific locations can be found on your festival guide or by downloading the EDC Las Vegas app on your smart phone.

We also sell reusable Insomniac-branded stainless steel water bottles that may be brought into all Insomniac festivals as long as they're empty—a stylish way to stay hydrated. Bring your bottle to the Free Water Refill Stations any time during the event. If you don't have one, any empty beverage container will do. Of course, water and sports drinks will also be available for purchase at our merchandise booths.

COOLING DOWN
There will be four "Cool Lounge" located inside the festival, each with air conditioning and comfortable seating to relax and take breaks between all the amazing artists performing on the six stages at EDC Las Vegas. Specific “Cool Lounge” locations can be found on your festival guide look for the area marked “Cool Lounge,” or by downloading the EDC Las Vegas app on your smart phone.

FASHION & FUNCTION
Wear something comfortable, lightweight and a material that breathes. Be prepared for all types of weather. Avoid heavy fabrics and faux furs. Comfortable tennis shoes are the best way to go! Sandals and flip-flops can make for sore feet.

USE THE BUDDY SYSTEM

It might sound a little elementary, but having your friend's back is anything but childish. We’re using more of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway than ever, and it’s really easy to get separated. Know where your friends are, setup meeting points, and stick together—two or three brains are better than one! If you think a new or old friend needs help, ask our friendly staff to assist.

MEDICAL STATIONS
Accidents happen. If you or a friend would like medical attention, look for the red cross symbols on your festival map to locate one of our Medical Stations. EDC is staffed with the most qualified medical personal. From a Band-Aid on up, we’re here for you should you need anything at all.

GROUND CONTROL

Ground Control is dedicated to helping headliners stay happy, healthy and hydrated during Insomniac festivals. Our family of volunteers will be rocking their signature purple shirts, fanny packs, and light sabers, and will make their way through all areas of the festival. Please approach a Ground Control team member if you want assistance or simply need a friend! We all strongly believe in the beauty and power of helping others, and will do everything we can to make sure you have a safe, memorable experience.

PLAY HARD, NOT HIGH

Insomniac institutes a Zero Tolerance drug policy at all of its events—end of story. Don't be the person that ends up on YouTube getting escorted out of the venue or dancing naked down the racetrack. Keep the weekend great for all of us. Don't be that guy (or girl).

If you suspect that someone is suffering from a medical issue or potential drug overdose, seek immediate medical attention at one of the clearly marked Medical Stations, or find a Ground Control team member.

Here are some signs and symptoms to look out for:

• Abnormal Heart Rate (too fast or too slow)
• Abnormal Body Temperature (too hot or too cold)
• Abnormal Breathing (too fast or too slow)
• Flushed, Reddish or Pale Skin Color (Skin can be cool and sweaty, or     hot and dry)
• Won’t Wake Up
• Delusions or Hallucinations or Paranoia
• Pupils that do not react to changes in the light

HANG OUT, DON'T PASS OUT

Fact: EDC is probably the biggest party you'll ever attend, but you don’t need to consume excessive amounts of alcohol to have a good time. If you're under 21, you can't drink—period. If you're of legal age, be smart about how much you consume. More booze does not equal more fun, and alcohol is not a beverage to cool off or rehydrate with. It’s important to remember that your body weight and height will factor in to how much alcohol is safe to consume.

Simply put, we want each hour you spend at EDC to be a happy and healthy one. Besides, no one likes taking care of drunken friends.

Things You Should Know:
• Drunk people should not be responsible for other drunk people
• Binge drinking is the most dangerous kind there is—the faster you drink, the higher your BAC (blood alcohol concentration) becomes
• Strong coffee, a cold shower, sleeping or walking it off does not help someone suffering from alcohol poisoning
• Do try and keep intoxicated people awake, in an upright and sitting position—not lying down

Signs & Symptoms of Alcohol Poisoning:

• Slow or Irregular Breathing (fewer than eight breaths per minute, or 10 seconds or more between breaths)
• Confusion, stupor (unresponsive but conscious), coma, or person cannot be roused
• Vomiting
• Seizures
• Hypothermia (low body temperature)
• Pale skin color or bluish tinge

A FINAL WORD

You, the headliner, make Electric Daisy Carnival special. Your creativity, enthusiasm, and participation breathe life into what we do. Our Health and Safety tips are meant to foster an atmosphere of peace and community for what we hope will be one of the most memorable times of your life. A truly successful weekend requires everyone’s cooperation, and we look forward to seeing you on the dancefloor!

Dance Music Awards Show Coming In 2014

Dance Music Awards Show Coming In 2014

June 19th, 2013

A new award show dedicated solely to electronic dance music will debut in Las Vegas next year, partners Insomniac and dick clark productions announced during today's EDMbiz conference held at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. The show will serve as the premier industry showcase for the genre's best work each year.

The inaugural celebration of dance music will launch in Las Vegas during EDC Week in 2014 with an energy-filled event that will honor the most creative minds in dance music.

"Creating an award show focused on all the creative components that contribute to the success of dance music (music, art, production and lighting) has been a dream of mine for years," said Pasquale Rotella, Founder and CEO of Insomniac. "Partnering with dick clark productions was an easy decision given their experience producing the Golden Globes and the American Music Awards. I'm confident that our partnership will create an event that is focused on recognizing creativity without politics, and that it will celebrate all the elements that go into making dance music such a beautiful experience for the fans."

"EDM is the fastest growing segment of the music industry, encompassing recorded music, live events and lifestyle.  It's truly international," said Allen Shapiro, CEO of dick clark productions.   "DCP is the largest producer of music awards shows in the industry and Insomniac has been at the forefront of the EDM movement since they started in 1993.  Creating an EDM awards show with Insomniac is the perfect collaboration."

The inaugural awards show will be a grand celebration for everyone influenced by dance music. Additional details surrounding this exciting announcement will be revealed in the coming months.
