A recent transplant to Los Angeles by way of Atlanta, Deco has quickly risen in the ranks of America’s largest Drum & Bass scene. From opening for LTJ Bukem on Vanguard’s massive Funktion One sound system to performing at Coachella alongside the biggest names in music, his soulful sound has been warmly received on the West coast. Most recently, he played the closing party at Temple of Boom, LA’s dominant DJ-oriented record store. Still an ardent supporter of vinyl in an era of DJ booths dominated by CD players and laptops, the loss of such an important facet of the scene hit hard. “Record stores do a lot more than just sell music,” says Deco. “They’re a vital component of any thriving scene. When I first moved to LA the first thing I did was go to Temple of Boom. That’s how I met virtually everyone in the D&B scene here, distributed my demo CDs, and eventually lined up my initial gigs.”
Prior to his relocation to California, Deco was a prominent figure in Atlanta’s music scene. He spent four years working at America’s only student-run 100,000 watt college radio station, WRAS Atlanta 88.5FM, eventually rising to the role of General Manager. He produced several weekly radio shows on 88.5FM specializing in all genres of electronic music, hosting interviews and DJ sets with artists such as Hybrid, Pendulum, DJ Spooky, Noisia, Christopher Lawrence, DJ Klever and Dara. He helped run 404Audio, an Atlanta-based Drum & Bass collective and one of the most active local online communities. Deco was also a resident DJ at Transit, ATL’s premier Drum & Bass weekly, where he played alongside everyone from Calibre and Nu:Tone to Optical and AK1200. From 2004 to 2006, he produced the weekly Off The Couch webcast on Bassdrive with DJs Bombazi and Double Nil. Eager to maintain a presence on the world’s largest D&B Internet radio station, he launched his own Bassdrive show, Deco Radio, in September of 2006 after relocating to Los Angeles.
Deco will be performing at the 11th annual Electric Daisy Carnival, a massive festival featuring the top names in all forms of dance music from around the world. He’ll be holding down the Neon Garden stage presented by Bassrush, DJing alongside Pendulum, DJ Zinc, DJ Marky, Dynamite MC, Marcus Intalex, John B, and many more. “I’m thrilled to be a part of Electric Daisy Carnival and am extremely grateful that both Insomniac and Bassrush have given me a chance to play alongside such amazing DJs and producers. Make sure you’re there!”
